Secondhand style: Op Shop Ball

young people dancing in a room lit with party lights

On September 15 over 200 youth and youth leaders came together at St Barnabas Church in Stoke for the ever-popular Op Shop Ball. Each youth group had a part to play – St Barnabas did the setup, Hope Community Church was on music, Grace Church ran games, Hills Community Church served supper, Victory Church took care of tickets and security and All Saints packed up.

It was a great show of community as everyone did their part to make the night a roaring success. There were even reports afterwards of some of the young people who had never been to youth group before wanting to come back!

I helped to organise the ball alongside Brad Wood, who doubled as our amazing photographer (with assistance from the wonderful Petra Oomen), and could not have imagined a better outcome! We danced the night away and fun was had not only by the youth, but by the youth leaders as well. People left the dance slightly sweatier and stinkier than when they had arrived, but with huge smiles on their faces.

The Op Shop Ball has been growing since it started in 2020, and this year was a testament to how popular it's getting.

Bring on Op Shop Ball 2024!
