Brightwater Anglican Churches are looking for someone to help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where tamariki can explore faith, build friendships, and grow in their understanding of Jesus.

The role supports the Sunday Live service by leading the children’s programme and working alongside volunteers and church leaders to nurture the spiritual lives of children within the parish.

Hours of Work

This is a part-time position of 4 hours per week and 20 hours per year for special events, including:

  • 3 hours on Sunday evenings during Sunday Live (4:30pm - 7:30pm)
  • 1 hour flexible preparation time during the week for planning and organising the children’s programme
  • 20 hours for special events include Easter, Christmas and one off outreach family events

Sunday Live runs for nine weeks per term, with breaks over the school holidays. When Sunday Live is not running weekly hours can be used for church events, at the discretion of the Waimea Parish vicar.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the weekly children’s programme during Sunday Live with engaging Bible stories, activities, and discussion.

Help children feel welcomed, included, and valued in the church community.

Prepare simple weekly lessons and activities that connect with the wider teaching theme where possible.

Work alongside volunteer helpers and encourage a positive team environment.

Follow parish health and safety and child protection policies to ensure a safe environment for tamariki.

Assist with occasional church and Sunday Live events, including Easter and Christmas services.
