1. Contact emergency services (if required): phone 111
2. Secure the safety of the group (as appropriate) and remove from danger.
3. Assign Team Members to provide physical/emotional support as required. Have them engage the group in an activity if possible. Keep things as "normal" as possible. If there are any fatalities or serious injuries then be sure to instruct the group to not share any information about the incident on social media – inform them that the it is the role of the NZ Police and the diocese to make contact with next of kin, and it is vital that families do not hear about incidents via social media before there is support in place for them.
4. Contact the diocese Emergency Response team using the contact details that follow. They will provide further instruction. You will be asked for information about the incident and the group. They may complete the form below while you are on the phone, or they may request that you fill it out and submit it.
5. Request that participants don’t engage with the media but refer all media interest to the diocese office.
