Hills Community Church is looking for an experienced leader to care for elderly within the church and the wider community in Māpua.
Hills Community Church Trust Board are looking for an experienced caring leader to coordinate the elder care ministry in Māpua. This is an 8hrs/week paid part-time role and community facing with attention to care for the elderly within the church and the wider community.
Senior Moments programme meets on the second and fourth Wednesday each month. A good number of our local elderly connect to enjoy morning tea together, share experiences, celebrate one another and discuss helpful health/support information. Our coordinator leads this programme alongside keeping in regular touch with participants. We have had a wonderful team of volunteers helping with our senior moments program twice monthly and visiting our local elderly at home or in rest homes. A number of our volunteers will finish at the end of this year, therefore, one key focus for a new coordinator will be to build up a new team of volunteer support for this ministry.
The main focus of this pastoral ministry:
- Health and wellbeing of the elderly
- Understanding the impacts of isolation and loneliness on the elderly
- Providing socialisation for older people in an appropriate environment
- Helping to provide support within the community that enables older people to live independently
- Becoming aware of who in the community has needs that can be met by personal support
- To ensure that the elderly are aware of the services available to them
- Appreciating the value of the elderly within the community
We seek a person who:
- understands the needs of the elderly in this rural community
- is able to share the gospel in this setting through care, attitude, ministry service, events and sometimes through simple prayers or messages (ie: Easter, Christmas)
- has good communication skills
- is capable of leading, building and supporting a team of volunteers
- will organise Senior Moments social events
- has experience in a people-related discipline
- is able to apply for grants and meet reporting requirements
- will collaborate with Hills Church team, hospital professionals, rest home chaplains and any other local organisations serving the needs of the elderly.
